Hi XT & Ténéré fans!

I'm sorry to post in english : I don't speak brazilian...
I'm a french owner of a 1986 Ténéré (model 1VJ in Europe), the same as the brazilian model 2TY. This bike was very popular in France and Europe (Germany, England) during the years of glory of "Paris-Dakar". Now a very few of them are still in use because bikers change their mind about big trails, and also because of reccurent motor problems (gearbox, overheating...).
I use my Ténéré as second bike for off-road in tracks around Marseille, and for travelling in north African desert (Tunisia, Marocco).

A cedo!

jean_o, welcome to ClubeXT!

Interesting to know some historical facts about this motorcycle. Send us some pictures of your bike!

Here in Brazil we have a legion of bikers that want the big-trails back again!

Best regards,

You can see some pics of the tunisian desert here :

http://letricycle.free.fr/

The pictures are not very nice because the camera eat a lot of sand!
my bike is the Ténéré, of course!
I will post more pics soon.

A question about Resinarte products : I would like to buy a plastic kit, so I mail to the company, but it seems they don't speak english...
Is someone in the forum can help me to make the deal?

Thx,
Jean-Olivier

You can see several modifications (some are uggly, I know ;))
- Tachymeter from a moutain bike : accurate & light
- Oil thermometer to avoid overheating
- Second hand motor (3TB '00)
- "grand raid" luggage support
- GPS support (handmade!)
- MT21 tyres
- front mudguard from a previous model ('83 34L) with holes on the rear

Hi Nakamura,
for desert riding only one tip : gazzzzzzzz!!!
The feeling in deep an soft sand is like having the front brake always pulled.
You have to keep an average speed (40/50 kmh) to avoid "dribbling" and when you feel the bike become crazy, dont brake or stall : wide open the gaz command! Stand up on footpegs, look far (not your front wheel ;)) try to guess where is the best path to go.
In the desert the ground is never the same : sometimes the sand is like flour, sometimes it is hard enought to ride on like on a road, it's very hard to anticipate...
The Ténéré are good bikes on large tracks, but they are very heavy for soft sand! When you get stuck in dunes ten time per kilometer, you dream about a lightweight enduro!

Hope I help you!

Jean-O
ps : is there many sandy regions in Brazil?

Hi rabelo!

In Europe, many XT clubs exist, located principaly in the northern countries : Germany, Swizerland, Danmark. The main media for members to meet, discuss, etc... is almost forums, like the brasilian club. The most active forum is german (unfortunatly for us german speaking only) :
www.XT600.de
The website is plenty of good tips ans tricks for repair and upgrade XT's & Ténéré's but only in german...
The spirit of europeans members of these clubs seems to be the same as yours help each others, share good and bad experiences, plan trips on hollydays...
In France, we prefer Yahoo Groups for discussing (work like BBS or newsgroups) : there is many specialized groups : enduro, raid, vintage enduro, XT fans, etc...

Hope I answer you right!

Regards, Jean-Olivier

Hi Jean,

First, you're Welcome \:D/

About your answer... Wait some time, pelase, becouse we're testing another option. I think the Resinarte's products are quite expensives and aren't good enought  ... There is another manufacturer, PARAMOTOS, but #-o it's an trach.
I'll keep in touch :-!

Thank you for your help!
I visit the Paramotos website, they have a very large catalog of products...
In Europe, we can only buy original parts from Yamaha (side pannels, headlight, rear mudguard) for the price of massive gold part! The spare-part price politic of japanese bikemakers in Europe is simply astonishing : a front wheel for a Ténéré cost 400 euros (550 US$)...

I'm waiting for you news,

Jean-Olivier
